US Grade Preschool - 1
Learn the sound of each letter (vowels will focus on the short vowel sound)! At the beginning of class, we will sing the ABC song and then we will focus on the letter of the week. We will identify some objects that start with the letter and sing a chant for each sound and word. We will then watch a short letter video and make our letter with play clay. After completing our clay letters, I will show the students how to write the capital and small forms of each letter. Students are encouraged to bring an object that starts with the day's letter to share at the end of class. For each class, students will need play clay, like playdough, a pencil, or other writing device, and the weekly letter mat printout provided for each class. After class, I will post 5 activity sheets for each letter, for students who would like to practice during the week (class and then 5 days of one-page letter practice). *If you would like to do a weekly letter study, I would encourage you to laminate the letter mat printout or use a cover, like a sheet protector (these, along with the clay, can often be found at a dollar store). Students can practice their letter mats during your "school week". If you chose to laminate please have a dry-erase marker for class. Learners can join this class at any time. If no students have arrived at a class by 12 minutes after the start time I will end the class. If a student needs to cancel class, I will offer a reschedule when possible or issue a refund, as long as I am notified more than 24 hours in advance. In the case of a teacher scheduling conflict, I will offer to reschedule the class or issue a refund for the missed class. Thank you so much for respecting my time. :o)

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.
All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.
Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.
(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
