Beginner Level
In this ongoing math class, young learners will learn about a new math concept or topic each week based on the United Kingdom's National Curriculum for KS1 (ages 5-7). Each student will learn new skills and various methods for solving the math problems presented. Each individual lesson will be highly visual utilising math equipment such as Base 10, Numicon, link cubes and number lines. Concepts will be practised by each student using various media like interactive math visuals, games, activity sheets and Zoom's annotate function. Lessons will be begin with an introduction and demonstration of the concept followed by student practise through various media. We will usually finish the lesson by working together to begin the printable/downloadable activity for each topic (generally using annotate on Zoom). If unfinished, the activity may be completed outside of class and submitted to classroom for feedback, if wished. I encourage learners to continue with any unfinished work for them to have independent practise of each concept and consolidate their learning. Learners may join and leave at any time as each lesson is a self-contained topic/concept and does not build on previous lessons. The full course consists of 40 individual weekly classes presented approximately over the course of a year with 12 weeks of holiday/vacation (dates, where class does not run, are set by myself to fit around family commitments). Suitable for children who have a sound knowledge of foundation level maths. They should reliably be able to count forwards and backwards within 1-20, add and subtract 2 single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They should be able to use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time, and money.
