Chinese characters, also known as Hanzi (漢字) are one of the earliest forms of written language in the world, dating back approximately five thousand years. As an art form, Chinese calligraphy remains an integral aspect of Chinese culture. But do you know Chinese characters are actually related? For example, 女 (female) component can be found in a lot of characters. 她 (she), 妈(mom),姑(aunt),奶(grandma-Dad's mom),姥(grandma-mom's mom),etc. In this 30 minutes lesson, students will be able to work on component 汉字部首 water 氵to learn how to name, identify, write, and read simple characters & vocabulary. At the same time, it can help students with better Mandarin pronunciation. I will utilize interactive PowerPoint with animation. All the learning resources are created originally by me. My teaching promotes learning through interaction. Visual prompts & cues and positive reinforcements will be provided to students too. The maximum class size for this particular lesson is 6. Even if you do not know any Mandarin, you can still be able to learn and have fun with Chinese characters. Come and join me, you will surely enjoy this lesson!
Learning Goals
Students will be able to identify, read and write component 汉字部首 water 氵related characters (e.g. 河 river, 海 sea, 湖lake, 沙滩 beach, etc. and see the relation among these characters.

Hi, my name is Gail. I am a certified K-12 classroom teacher in the State of Florida. I will offer classes that are related to Mandarin/Chinese learning for kids and fun ELA & Math lesson for emergent learners or students with special needs.
I enjoy teaching and see it as the mission of my life. I have a master degree in education and have been a classroom teacher for 8 years. My certifications are in the area of Elementary Education K-6, Exceptional Education K-12, ESOL K-12, and Reading Endorsement K-12. Throughout my years of teaching, I have learned the power of differentiation and positive reinforcement, I also know how I can best help students learn and grow.
My favorite part of teaching is to create an interesting and engaging curriculum and watching students get actively involved in taking ownership of their learning. As a dedicated educator, I am very hard-working, creative, and passionate.
