US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Please join me for a magical adventure. In this one-time class, students will explore and practice early literacy concepts Mermaid style. This class is engaging and interactive. Students are more than welcome to come dressed up as a Mermaid. This class is great for any Pre-K or Kindergarten learner. Students should have a solid foundation of letter names and most sounds. Students will practice stretching out CVC word sounds orally, identifying beginning sounds/letters, identifying and producing rhyming words, and reading CVC words. Slashing Sounds Students will pretend to jump out of the water and make a splash for each sound in a given word. Mystery Word Sand Writing Students can bring a shallow tray of sand (sugar, salt, powdered Jell-O, etc.) to class to make writing words more fun! Students can also just use a dry erase board/marker or paper/pencil if you prefer. Using a PowerPoint, students will be shown 3 pictures. Together, we will identify each of the beginning sounds, write the letters with our finger in the sand, and solve the mystery by sounding out and reading the CVC word. Mermaid Rhyme Time Students will be presented with different pictures. Together, we will figure out what words rhyme with the given picture. Students will record the answer by coloring on the provided handout. Find the Mermaid Students will take turns reading CVC words to find the hidden Mermaid. I cannot wait to practice these important early literacy skills that will help build the foundation to your child's success in reading!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Emily. I have been married for 7 years. We have two precious boys. I have had a passion for teaching since I was a little girl. I was the kid that lined up her dolls and gave them homework.
I received my B.S. Degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education from Gordon College in 2012. I received my M.A. Degree in Early Childhood Education from Piedmont College in 2015. I have 7 years of formal classroom experience. I spent 1 year teaching in Pre-K and I taught Kindergarten for 6 years. I am currently an online ESL teacher to students across the world.
My number one goal is for my students to leave my classroom feeling more enriched than when they entered. I believe learning should be relevant and fun. I am a huge believer in play-based learning. I believe hands-on learning sparks creativity and enriches the imagination. I have a passion for teaching beginner math and literacy skills. I enjoy teaching around themes that are interesting and make students excited about learning.
I offer a wide variety of classes. My classes will teach and enhance beginner math and literacy skills, while also sparking the imagination through intentional play. I love to incorporate crafts, songs, movement, and even edible "crafts" to make learning more concrete. My classroom will always be inviting, interactive, and engaging. I am so excited to meet your child. I cannot wait to be apart of your child's educational journey!
Let's learn and have fun together.
