Beginner Level
In this fun animal-themed class, learners will practice early literacy skills including letter identification, print awareness, and phonetic awareness. We will focus on the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, and Dd using the animals alligator, bear, cat, and dog. I will provide worksheets created by me specifically for this class for tracing as well as coloring sheets for each letter to be printed off prior to class. At the beginning of class, I will introduce myself and provide opportunity for each student to introduce themselves and tell me what there favorite animal is. I will then introduce each letter. We'll practice identifying the letter, making the letter sound, listening for the sound, talking about words that start with the letter, and even tracing and writing the letter on the provided worksheet. Finally, we will put the new letter and phonics skills to use with an animal storybook created by me specifically for this class. Students can also use the coloring sheets during class as we talk, if desired. Learners will be given an opportunity to share their coloring sheets with the group at the end of class. Hello! My name is Angie. For the past four years, I’ve taught English online while providing home education to my son who is currently a 5th grader. I have a master’s degree in social work and have also taken three years of doctorate level courses in pursuit of a PhD in Early Childhood Education. For several years, I taught child development classes to aspiring teachers at the collegiate level. In my career, I’ve also been a child and family therapist, helping children and their families tackle emotional and mental health concerns. I’ve worked with children in many capacities and am passionate about helping students learn and thrive in a variety of ways. I strongly believe learning should be fun, and I strive to always create an upbeat, positive learning environment. Who says you can’t learn and be silly at the same time?!
Outside of teaching, my hobbies include photography, martial arts, reading, and gaming with my family. I live at the beach in Florida with my husband Erick (also an Outschool teacher!), our science-loving son, and our cuddly cat.
