In this one-time course, students will build English vocabulary from Latin as they learn the types of clothing ancient Romans wore while practicing critical thinking and social skills discussing its impact on modern dress.

In this class, students will learn the Latin terms for the various types of clothing ancient Romans wore through a slide show presentation. As they learn these terms, I use questioning to get them to think of English words derived from them, while also providing examples that will build their English vocabulary. They will explore the purposes of clothing and how the ancient Romans were similar to and different from our own culture through class discussion regularly interspersed throughout the class period. There will be quiz games to test their understanding of both Roman dress and English root words learned in class.

Parental Guidance
In this class we will be using the Kahoot quiz site for fun, low stakes competition and reinforcement for the learning. No subscription is required to use this free service. Students will be participating via computer or smartphone to sign into the quiz game. I will also be screen sharing to present a google slide presentation.
Supply List
A three page handout describing basic Roman dress and Latin root words with English derivatives will be provided.
