UPDATE: Since I've added more of the Studio Ghibli classes, I'm moving this class into a multi-day class so that the schedule can be better managed. If you'd like to take this class, please refer to these multi-day classes instead: https://outschool.com/classes/learn-japanese-thru-studio-ghibli-movies-spirited-away-howls-castle-etc-eCTO7RiX#usYGPbd2sy https://outschool.com/classes/learn-japanese-thru-studio-ghibli-movies-totoro-ponyo-kikis-delivery-MucE3kBq#usYGPbd2sy *If you have already taken some of the classes in the series, just message me and I can give you a prorated refund. * Studio Ghibli is iconic in the Japanese culture. This class is most suitable for students who are new to the Japanese language and culture. In this lesson, I will be introducing the movie, "My Neighbor Totoro" to the students. I will teach the students some Japanese including: - the movie title - vocabulary words and phrases from the movie As we learn about the language, we will also talk about some of the cultural aspects in the movie. During class, we will come up with creative ways to help everyone remember the vocabulary words (listed in the learning goals section below). We won't be watching the movie in class. If students haven't seen the movie, they are welcome to participate as well and learn some things about the movie before watching it. However, there might be some spoilers in the lesson. At the end of the lesson, the slides will be shared with the students so that they can continue to review the content taught. Students are also encouraged to complete the slides for extra practice. I recommend that students put up notecards around the home to help review the words often.

About Me:
I have a Master's degree in teaching and over 15 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. From 2016-2020, I've been teaching and training teachers for online instruction, specializing in methodologies and curriculum development. I also spent many years studying how the brain learns information. It's fascinating! I'm a mom of two kiddos. They are the reason I love teaching.
My classes:
All the materials in my classroom are designed with kids in mind, and I ensure that all my classes are tested with students before being launched. My strength lies in motivating struggling students to enjoy learning. I help them overcome fear of challenging subjects like math or languages by creating an environment
that is fun and engaging. Over the years, I have implemented effective lessons, using unconventional methods such as Singapore math, that are not typically taught in classrooms. These methods allow me to target students' individual needs.
Accomplishments:
I have spearheaded several initiatives in online teaching, including the first successful online classroom program in the world for impoverished children, which I presented at the International TESOL Convention in 2018. My ultimate desire is to see education made accessible to underprivileged kids worldwide.
Educational Philosophy:
I believe that every child deserves access to fun and effective education. Recognizing that every child learns differently, I strive to accommodate various learning styles. Above all, my goal is to put a smile on every child's face.
Education:
- Bachelor's in Design
- Master's degree in Teaching
- Elementary Education Certification with ESOL
