US Grade 3 - 6
In this three week class, students will learn how to safely research an invention of their choosing and the person who invented it, create a presentation to share their findings, and get support along the way. Please note: Students must be able to read and write to be able to participate in this class. Parents are encouraged to help younger students who are still learning to read and write if they would like to participate in this class. Students are welcome to take the class as many times as they want as long as they choose a different invention to research each time. On the first day of class, students will learn how to find information for their presentation. The teacher will talk about what kind of information to look for, possible safe sources such as books, magazines, and websites, and review the importance of asking a guardian before using the internet to research their invention. Students will learn how to take notes from the information they find. An example project will be shown by the teacher, along with time for questions and idea sharing. Students will begin thinking about what invention they would like to research and work on finding resources and taking notes throughout the week. On the second day of class, students will learn how to take the information they gathered and put it onto a poster board, large paper, or cardboard box display. Students will still have time to gather information this week, as well, but this will give them a chance to ask questions, learn how to set up their presentation, and work on finalizing their project with support available during class. Students will receive pointers to help them prepare for sharing their presentations in the next class. Students will finish their projects throughout the week and practice presenting their findings to be ready to share in class. On the third day of class, students will share their presentations. Each student will get a chance to share their findings with the class with a brief question and answer time following their speech. Please note that low enrollment may cut this particular day short.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! Thank you for sharing this time with me! My name is Mrs. Bloom, and I love teaching kids! My goal is to allow my students to experience learning hands on, and to encourage them to think and express themselves in a positive way. With over 20 years of experience working with kids in multiple capacities, including volunteering at camps, running kids programs, working as a teacher, and raising and homeschooling my own child, I have a huge variety of experiences from which I can pull to create fun and engaging classes for my students! Since we are expected to integrate information from multiple areas when we approach a problem in real life, my classes are taught from this interdisciplinary perspective. This allows students to ask questions, explore, and discover information that is interesting and relevant, motivating them to become lifelong learners. I can't wait for you to join me as we enjoy the art of learning!
