This one time class is designed a beginner level class for kids interested in learning how to code on Scratch. We will go through each step together to learn the basics of coding, and how to create your own simple Mario game. Kids who do not have any experience using Scratch may need some assistance from their parents. Students that have coded before, or that may be looking into advancing their skills further, might be interested in our ongoing clubs which you can find here: -Beginner ongoing coding club https://outschool.com/classes/video-game-coding-club-ongoing-wRO4P0iR#usO6qkJXAA -Intermediate coding club: https://outschool.com/classes/intermediate-video-game-coding-club-ongoing-ppNRnrhl#usO6qkJXAA When kids learn to code and create their own games, they are becoming story writers, creators, and inventors. Through coding they learn the complexities of video game creation, and benefit from actually creating the game, rather than just playing the finished product. Once they've taken this class, they will be able to use their Scratch account and knowledge they've gained to continue making their own creations, even after class has ended. In this class you will need a computer and a web browser open to https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/701102261/editor/. Please create an account before class. We will not be using Scratch Jr. or any apps in this class. If possible, please take the class using two screens so the student can easily watch the teacher's screen, and then follow the instructions on their own screen. Students will need a mouse and computer to build their game, and zoom can be pulled up on a tablet or second device. The last 10 minutes of class is set aside for students who need individual help. Students who have completed building the code and do not need individual help are welcome to stay the last 10 minutes of class, but they also have the option to leave after 60 minutes if they have completed the project without any issues.
