Henry Ford got America going with mass production of vehicles. Soon, Howard Hughes did so with planes while Thomas Alva Edison created electricity to power our world. Electricity fueled modern creators Bill Gates with computers and Steve Jobs with iPhones. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos changed our spending habits from Main Street to home deliveries. And, Walt Disney taught us how to be a child again. These seven entrepreneurs created empires over the past century that still touch our daily lives. But that’s just the start. We’ll also discuss how students can learn from these empire makers to create their own. After all, plenty of young adults have appeared on “Shark Tank.” Students can ask questions throughout class or even beforehand to ensure their learning goals are met. And, we'll review near the end to ensure everyone understands key points.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how bold, forward-thinking entrepreneurs make a big difference on the world. These empires were started in garages making cars, planes, computers and phones before recreating not only U.S. life, but everyone worldwide.
These inspirational stories are meant to make students think how they can turn their ideas into real experiences. How they can make a difference in their lives and on the world like these pioneers.
Class discussion will include each student’s idea of what they’d like to create.
