Is this course students will be taught the art of essay writing. Students will explore the ten following basic academic forms of essay writing: descriptive essay, definition essay, compare and contrast essay, cause and effect essay, narrative essay, process essay, argumentative essay, critical essay, expository essay, and persuasive essay. Students will be taught how to develop a good essay title, how to formulate a thesis, how to write powerful introductions, how to add well-developed details with claims, evidence, connections, and transitions, and how to end with a solid conclusion. Session 1: Introduction to the five Paragraph Essay format, Overview of Essay Types (Descriptive, Definition, Compare and Contrast, Cause and Effect, Process Essay, Narrative, Argumentative, Critical, Expository, Persuasive Essay) Session 2: Title and Thesis Statements, Introduction Paragraphs, Writing an Outline Session 3: Details and supporting Ideas, Using Rubrics, Research, Finding Ideas, Transition Phrases Session 4: Writing the Conclusion, Putting it all together, Proof Reading Session 5: Choosing an Essay Type, Generate Ideas, Create an Outline, Title, and Thesis Session 6: Final Essay Completion and Assessment of Learning
