Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1

Beginner Level

Please note this is a Self-Paced Class. There are no live meetings, but teacher will interact with students via Outschool if you help or support is needed.  This Self-Paced Class provides the opportunity to complete the projects at your pace.      

What to expect weekly: 
- Code project as you follow along with videos.  
- Pause, rewind, and review videos as needed.  
- Communicate with teacher using Outschool message board
- Share project video if you need teacher to review or just to share
- Optional challenge in the end

Lesson is aimed for students new to coding.  Students will practice the basics of programming, problem solving and critical thinking skills by creating a new project each week.  

Students will learn the following in a series of classes:  
- use and code one or more characters
- change the look and size of a character
- use one or more background
- create your own character and/or background
- add voice to characters
- use repeat command 
- use speed command
- hide and show characters 
- add speech bubbles

Cat Goes To School

 Code a 4 page project of Cat going to school.

Lesson 2:

Cat Goes To The Moon

 Code a 4 page project of Cat going to the moon.

Lesson 3:

Soccer Game

 Code a basic Soccer Game.

Lesson 4:

Fish Game

 Code a basic Fish Game.

Other Details

Parental Guidance

Students will have to download the Scratch Jr. app to participate in class. The app is free and does not require any personal information.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Burleigh. I live in Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor in Science in Information Systems. I started my career in a banking institute, but quickly realized I wanted to become a teacher. I have been working in education for 15 years, 3 years teaching with Outschool. I am Bilingual Certified - speak English and Spanish and teach Bilingual and ESL students. My teaching experience includes: Robotics, Codings, Spanish, Pre K - 3rd grade Bilingual instruction, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and STEM teacher. 

I love to teach Reading, Math, Spanish, Technology and STEM (including robotics). I love spending time with family, teaching, and running. A little fun fact about me...I run marathons for fun! I can't wait to see you in class.
