Class Experience

Advanced Level
Lesson is aimed for experienced learners with Scratch Jr.  This course is fast paced and is meant to challenge students.  It's important to join class on time or students may not get to finish their project.  Students will practice the basics of programming, problem solving and critical thinking skills with Scratch Jr. 

Teacher will present ideas, but session will be learner-directed and changing every week.  Students may create the class project presented or create their own as a challenge.  

Students will learn the following weekly or in a series of classes depending on project:  
- use and code one or more characters
- change the look and size of a character
- use one or more background
- create own character and/or background
- add voice to characters
- use repeat command 
- use speed command
- hide and show characters 
- add speech bubbles 
- add several pages to a project 
- use message command

Students will need to download the app: Scratch Jr. before class.

Hello! My name is Cynthia Burleigh. I live in Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor in Science in Information Systems. I started my career in a banking institute, but quickly realized I wanted to become a teacher. I have been working in education for 15 years, 3 years teaching with Outschool. I am Bilingual Certified - speak English and Spanish and teach Bilingual and ESL students. My teaching experience includes: Robotics, Codings, Spanish, Pre K - 3rd grade Bilingual instruction, Bilingual Reading Specialist, and STEM teacher. 

I love to teach Reading, Math, Spanish, Technology and STEM (including robotics). I love spending time with family, teaching, and running. A little fun fact about me...I run marathons for fun! I can't wait to see you in class.
