Description
Class Experience
Building off of the students' previous experience with sequencing and debugging, this lesson will work to inspire more creativity with coding. Using loops (repeating action/actions) is an important skill in programming. Students will learn to add instructions to existing loops, gather repeated code into loops, and recognize patterns that need to be looped. Students will be able to: Identify the benefits of using a loop structure instead of manual repetition. Differentiate between commands that need to be repeated in loops and commands that should be used on their own. Vocabulary: Program - An algorithm that has been coded into something that can be run by a machine. Programming - The art of creating a program. Loop - The action of doing something over and over again. Repeat - Do something again
I am an enthusiastic science, technology and STEM teacher with over 30 years teaching different age and grade levels. I love to write algorithm and code to solve a problem. This enhances my creativity and problem solving skills.
The students may continue to practice at home.
Student will need a LAPTOP or a DESKTOP and should be able to copy a link (url) from Zoom Chat (shared at time of class) and paste it in their browser tab. Please do not use an iPad or a tablet because it gets very frustrating for a student to keep both Zoom and the Browser tab to remain open during the class and feel lost in moving from one to another.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Student moves to the next level only when he/she has understood and solved the previous level. The learner will be assessed as he/she progresses in the game.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
