In Chinese Culture Adventure Club (中国文化探索俱乐部), learners will dive into Chinese festivals, folktales, and traditions through hands-on crafts and storytelling. Each session brings a new cultural theme to life with interactive activities that keep young learners engaged and excited to learn. From creating dragon masks for the Dragon Boat Festival to hearing the legend of the Moon Goddess during Mid-Autumn Festival, children will discover the rich traditions of Chinese culture in a fun and meaningful way. This class is perfect for curious learners who enjoy stories and creative projects. With a focus on hands-on learning, children will gain a deeper appreciation of Chinese traditions while practicing basic Mandarin phrases related to each theme. ★★ What Will Be Taught? ★★ → Chinese festivals and traditions, including Lunar New Year (春节 Chūnjié), Mid-Autumn Festival (中秋节 Zhōngqiūjié), Dragon Boat Festival (端午节 Duānwǔjié), Qingming Festival (清明节 Qīngmíngjié), and Lantern Festival (元宵节 Yuánxiāojié). Learners will explore the origins, customs, and traditional foods of these celebrations. → Classic Chinese folktales, such as The Legend of Nian (年兽 Nián shòu), The Jade Rabbit (玉兔 Yùtù), The Monkey King (孙悟空 Sūn Wùkōng), and The Butterfly Lovers (梁山伯与祝英台 Liáng Shānbó yǔ Zhù Yīngtái). These stories provide valuable life lessons and insights into Chinese values and beliefs. → Hands-on crafts that connect with each cultural theme, including paper lanterns, dragon masks, Chinese zodiac animals, painted paper fans, red envelopes (红包 hóngbāo), and paper-cut art (剪纸 jiǎnzhǐ). → Mandarin phrases and vocabulary related to each theme, such as greetings, colors, and simple descriptions. Example phrases include: - 新年快乐 Xīnnián kuàilè – "Happy New Year!" - 这是我的... Zhè shì wǒ de... – "This is my..." - 谢谢 Xièxiè – "Thank you!" → Cultural symbols and customs, including dragons, lions, lotus flowers, and lucky knots (中国结 Zhōngguó jié). Learners will discover how these symbols are used in celebrations and daily life. → Polite phrases and social etiquette, such as 你好 Nǐ hǎo (Hello) and 再见 Zàijiàn (Goodbye). → Foods and snacks associated with Chinese festivals, including dumplings (饺子 jiǎozi), mooncakes (月饼 yuèbǐng), and zongzi (粽子). Learners will explore their cultural significance and when they are traditionally eaten. ★★ How Is the Class Structured? ★★ Each 45-minute session includes a mix of interactive learning and creativity: → Welcome and cultural greeting (5 minutes) with a simple Mandarin greeting and an introduction to the week’s theme. → Storytime or cultural lesson (10-15 minutes) featuring a classic folktale or an exploration of a cultural tradition. → Craft time (20-25 minutes) with a hands-on project related to the theme, such as making lanterns, dragon masks, or zodiac animals. → Wrap-up and Mandarin practice (5 minutes) with a short review, a key Mandarin phrase, and a friendly goodbye. ★★ Language of Instruction ★★ This class is taught primarily in English, with basic Mandarin phrases introduced throughout the session to enrich the cultural experience. Learners will practice simple Mandarin greetings, phrases, and vocabulary related to each week’s theme in a fun, low-pressure environment.
