We will learn about the Chinoiserie design style, a few auspicious Chinese characters and some world history lessons through the spice trade between east and west. Learners will create their own Chinoiserie arts and crafts project.

Learners will be introduced to spice trade between east and west, Chinoiserie design style and 4 auspicious Chinese characters. Learners will also have a chance to create their own ginger jar inspired ornament balls, rocks or placement cards. Topics range from world history, geography, Chinese and Chinoiserie design style. Learners will learn about the spice trade which gave birth to Chinoiserie design style in Europe. They will be able to identify a ginger jar and know its usage. They will learn four stylized auspicious Chinese characters and be able use at least one on their arts and crafts project.
I am a professional designer and have been in the design industry for the past 20 years ranging from graphics, packaging, fashion to home fashion. I am also a native Mandarin Chinese speaker and an avid traveler. I enjoy sharing my expertise in design and combining different areas in history, art and language into my lessons.
Homework would be to complete the hands-on project from class.
