Class Experience

This is a hands-on class, geared toward kinesthetic learners, that will teach basic neuroanatomy of the brain through multimodal sensory learning by constructing clay models of the brain structures.
Topics Covered:
Frontal lobe
Parietal Lobe
Temporal Lobe
Occipital lobe
Brain stem

Teaching Style:
My goal is to promote self-learning and help students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge. Primarily, my teaching style trains students to ask questions and helps develop skills to find answers and solutions through exploration. I strive to prompt students toward the discovery of relevant information.

Class Structure:
The class will begin with fun facts and a short overview of the brain. Then we will review the function of the individual lobe. After constructing each lobe and attaching it to the sheet of paper, learners will label the structure.
Every 15 min everyone will have an opportunity to stand up and stretch.

Required experience or prior knowledge:
None

Learning Goals

Students will be able to identify important neuroanatomical structures of the brain as well as their associated functions.

𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐨! 👋🏻 My name is Naida.
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy. I am thrilled to share my fascination with the human body with your learners. The human body is a miracle, and getting even a glimpse of how it functions fuels curiosity to learn more about it.

I love learning and teaching what I know. I have been teaching in different capacities ever since I was 14, helping my siblings with their homework. I continued to enjoy teaching by tutoring science courses to my college classmates. Now I educate my patients about their bodies as I treat them. For example, patients with diabetes in the clinic ask me how diabetes affects their ability to lose the sensation of sharp objects on their feet. So in the clinic I find myself educating the patients about the way our body works.

As a physical therapist, I have extensive experience working with children with short attention span. I have implemented strategies that help them stay focused and interested.

Effective learning strategies for kids include the following:
- Build on students’ existing knowledge
- Learning content through hands-on interactions
- Promote reflection on and clarification of existing ideas

In my free time, I enjoy spending time in nature with my family, riding my beach bike along the coast, swimming, dancing, learning new songs to sing to my son, and watching movies and the Discovery Chanel on TV. I am excited to encourage your kids to find their passion for learning.
