US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
In this fun and engaging class preschoolers will use playdough to build fine motor skills and explore sensory learning. Children will work on shapes, letters, numbers, counting, vocabulary and creativity through using playdough to create different objects throughout the class. As a class, we will explore a learning concept using songs and visuals then children will complete a task using their own playdough. This may be talking about letter names and then forming a letter, talking about the number of sides in a shape and then forming the shape, rolling dice and rolling that many playdough balls or seeing a picture of an animal and using playdough to make our own! Children will also have a chance to share what they have made and created with the class. Each week's class will include talking about and creating a few letters, shapes, numbers or a counting activity and a chance to put it all together to make and share their own creation. Week 1: we will use Playdough task cards to practice forming different lines, curves and shapes. We will then introduce letter names with visuals and then and practice forming these letters with Playdough lines and curves that we practiced before. We will then use dice to play a counting and math game. In our last activity, children will choose an animal from my visual and use their Playdough and their tools to make it and then share with the class. Week 2: We will begin by reviewing the lines curves and letters that we talked about in week 1. We will then work on shapes. Using visuals to make them and count their sides, lines and corners. Children will then practice forming these shapes with their own Playdough with visuals as a reference. Children will then get to choose an object to creatively make from my list- these objects can be turned using shapes! We will have time to share what they created. Week 3: We will work on identifying numbers 1-10 with visuals and talk about how to form them. Children will then firm them with Playdough, practicing identifying them by name as well. We will then use dice to count and match the quantity to a number in print. Children will then get creative by making an insect of their own out of Playdough they will use their dice to roll and count how many eyes and legs to put in their creation. We will then have time to share! In week 4: We will review with Playdough task cards again and dice into some more number identification activities. Children will use their Playdough to form letters and then form an object that begins with one of these letters. We will share creations and Children will play a multi sensory math game to end our time together! Learners will receive a printable playdough mat/s at the end of class to use at home.
