Parrots are beautiful and intelligent birds. It is important to understand the responsibility of keeping these amazing creatures as pets. Different parrot species have specific characteristics and traits. Also, each individual parrot has their own personality. Students will learn about parrots in general, learn about two specific species, and about two individual parrots that will join the class. Aloha the Eclectus parrot will impress the students with her vibrant blue and red feathers and black beak. Sky the Cape parrot will entertain the students with her silly antics and may even speak a few words of her extensive vocabulary. Parrot owners, those interested in owning a parrot, and those just wanting to learn about parrots are all welcome in this class!

I am an educator. I have a BA degree in psychology and education from Barnard College Columbia University and an MA degree in education from Teachers College Columbia University. I have taught grades Kindergarten through 8th grade for 30 years in a public school setting. I love to teach. Some of my interests include literature, animals, and nature. My philosophy as a teacher is to make a connection with my students in order to facilitate their learning. I am eager to integrate my passion for literature and animals to provide students knowledge in these areas as well as social emotional learning. I have a few pets including dogs, a rabbit, parrots, a tortoise, a bearded dragon, and fish. I have developed lessons incorporating my pets to offer both ELA and SEL instruction. I also enjoy teaching about pet facts and ownership of the various animals I am lucky to have in my life.
