In this one-time class w/ certified teacher Mr. Lipton, students will learn about the Jewish holiday of Tu BiShvat (Hebrew for New Year of the Trees) to honor & take care of the earth, learn about recycling, composting & endangered animals. The Jewish holiday of Tu BiShvat is a holiday to honor the earth. In this class students will: -Learn about ways to take care of the earth -Learn about recycling and composting -Learn about endangered animals -Learn a song about taking care of the earth (lyrics provided) -Explore some traditional foods and customs that have become part of Tu BiShvat -Create their own posters about taking care of the earth We will also learn about a special Tu BiShvat meal that some people have to celebrate the holiday. We will look at photos of Tu BiShvat celebrations in Israel and the USA. The class will be a mix of thinking about taking care of the earth and learning about a special Jewish tradition. This class will be taught secularly, culturally and historically. Mr. Lipton is a certified teacher who was raised in the Jewish faith and enjoys celebrating the Jewish holidays throughout the year with his family. He volunteers at his local synagogue in Brookline, MA. Please see Mr. Lipton's compete bio under the Teacher Expertise tab. Cameras must be on for the entirety of the class, and students on camera. All learners must be enrolled students; if two learners are sharing a device, both learners must be enrolled per Outschool policies. SEG does not do last minute transfers or refunds, after the limited cancellation period has expired. Please see the supply list.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Daniel Lipton is a second grade teacher in Brookline, Massachusetts. Daniel has been teaching second grade for more than 18 years. Mr. Lipton has a Master's in Reading Education, a Master's in Education Administration, and a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Daniel is certified as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, math specialist, and principal/vice principal in the state of Massachusetts. He loves writing children's musicals and runs a summer theater camp. Mr. Lipton also works with students in preK-8 in various after school programs. Mr. Lipton’s passions are integrating curriculum and incorporating the arts into his teaching. Mr. Lipton was a finalist for Massachusetts Teacher of the Year in 2015. Mr. Lipton has two sons and he is very excited to work with SEG to teach several classes! Mr. Lipton also has two betta fish and a turtle, and despite his sons' protests, loves singing songs from Frozen all the time!!
