Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Greek Myths are exciting! Let's learn about how these myths were written, look at them in detail and write our own!

Please note this is a Flexible learning class so there are not live sessions.

This fun class is run over four weeks, learners will have fun and learn about different types of Greek myths. They will improve their writing skills and recognise different types of myths

Each week will consist of a video lesson which the children can watch to understand that lesson’s learning point, they will then use the knowledge they have gained to take part in class activities, including group discussion, drafting and reading of scripts. They will use the OutSchool classroom to support each other, take part in activities and contribute to group work.

While this class does not meet live, the children will still be expected to participate by completing the set tasks, returning videos and photos of their work and commenting on other’s.

Week 1: This week we will start off by looking at a Greek myth and breaking down the parts to recognise how a myth is constructed. We will discuss the elements of a myth and complete activities to reinforce the knowledge. These activities include: creating a flipbook, using a comparison grid and developing myth ideas. Classroom sharing of the work completed using flipgrid for videos and sharing of photos as well as evaluation of other student's work.

Week 2: Week 2 is all about the characters in myths. This week we will learn about the types of characters and how they are presented. The learners will be expected to post questions for the characters and take on roles to better understand the story. This week activities will include creating character and setting strips and using these to develop myth ideas. The ideas will be shared in the classroom and a class character creation will be compiled from the learners work.

Week 3: This week we will learn about settings and drawing together different myths. The learners will have a chance to design their own setting and to receive class feedback. Once learners have contributed their own settign we will merge these into a class setting for our myth and add this to our class character from the previous week.

Week 4: In our final week we will be using our knowledge to create and act out our own Greek myth. The students will upload videos to share their work and participate in a adapting the class myth by contributing part of the story and offering feedback to improve our class myth.
