World Coati Day is on December 3rd! This annual event celebrates the four living species of coatis (Nasua and Nasuella spp.), aka coatimundis, raccoon relatives all native to the Americas. Unfortunately, one species is already recognized as endangered, while the other three are experiencing population declines and conservation concerns as well. Join in to learn what makes these animals so special, why they are under threat, and what you can do to help!

These 1/2 hour live informational sessions will consist of primarily of multimedia content accompanied by lecture and Q&A, and will be followed by additional free resources posted to the classroom board.

I am a real-life zoologist who enjoys sharing my love of the animal kingdom with lifelong learners of all ages. I also have broad expertise in both conservation biology and mammalogy, and one of my current research projects is focused on investigating the historical visual record of coatis in both the Americas and Europe.

I also have two decades experience as a home education advocate, including homeschooling my own children from preschool through high school. I am a big proponent of flexible learning, individualized education, and supporting fellow neurodiverse learners, so please don't hesitate to reach out to me with requests for accommodations or additional resources. We all learn in our own way and time, but everyone should have the chance to learn about how cool animals are! 😎
