Class experience
Let's learn about the many influential African-American artists from the days of the Harlem Renaissance to today! In this class, we’ll look at the lives of various African-American artists. We will not only learn about the artists' techniques and styles, but most importantly, about the influences of the artists' work. In these artists' stories, the history of slavery, stereotyping, segregation and racism play a significant role in the artists' inspiration of their art. I will include...
Students will learn about the lives of various African-American artists from the Harlem Renaissance to the present! Students will also learn about different types of art, art styles, art movements and art techniques!
Homework Offered
Whatever artwork is not finished in class can be completed on the learner's free time. Once the work is completed, the learner can upload photos of the finished work into the classroom.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
I will provide the students with feedback regarding their artwork. I will talk about how their art connects with the lesson that we learned. I will talk about the student's use of color, line, shape, etc.Grades Offered
Learners may bring any medium that they choose to create art! Examples include: acrylic paint, oil pastels, watercolors, markers, etc. There will be some lessons where I will ask in advance that the learners bring specific materials such as old magazines, scissors and glue for collage.
Some topics will be addressed during the presentation such as feminism, ageism, racism, addiction, etc. Any artwork that may contain nudity will be covered. I will also ask some weeks to bring scissors to class for collage-making.
