Ms. Shiren is a graduate of the University of Toronto Peace, Conflict and Justice program, with a specialization in African Studies. She has lived and worked in West Africa, Latin America, and Europe including among communities of African descent in these diasporic locations. Ms. Shiren teaches from young children to adults and has worked and taught adults in West Africa and in Colombia, where she was exposed to the breadth of diversity in the various communities of the African Diaspora. Throughout her career, she has also served on boards related to education of African Diasporic Youth, worked for award-shows celebrating the achievements of Afro-descended peoples from different parts of the world, and served on committees and working groups committed to researching and advancing the interests and needs of Afro-descended communities around the globe. This continues to be a passion she continues to develop and hopes to share with the young people in her classes on Outschool. A former service provider in mental health and addiction services, she is sensitive to the individual's need for emotional support, where necessary.
