Are you ready to become a lemur expert? Then this class is for YOU! In this class we will be learning fun facts about lemurs from written facts & a few videos, while also learning how to use graphic organizers to record our research. In addition, I will be leading a directed drawing of a lemur that we will label. This lesson will help your student become a rockstar researcher, which will help them write amazing non-fiction stories. At the end of our lesson, there will be a comprehension check to test their lemur knowledge! For this class, it is best that your student is able to write independently. I will be guiding our writing so they don't have to do it alone, but we will be moving quickly! Lesson Outline: At the beginning of class, the focus animal (lemur) will be introduced to the student. Together, the teacher and student will brainstorm what they already know about lemur and what they would like to know about lemurs. The teacher will read facts about lemurs, with a few videos and pictures to supplement the facts being presented. We will then work on our lemur fact report. We will answer questions about where lemurs live, what they eat, what they look like, their predators, and adaptations. Students will then join the teacher to draw a picture of a lemur. The learner will then write their favorite fact from class at the bottom of their paper. We will share our favorite facts, but sharing is optional, never forced. A lemur drawing page will be provided, but not required. They may use blank drawing paper if needed. The students may color their lemur at the end of class! To end the lesson, students will work together to answer a few trivia questions about lemurs! Assistance will be provided to students as needed.
Learning Goals
Students will engage in writing activities to help develop their non-fiction writing skills. Students will learn to record research using complete sentences graphic organizers while researching an animal.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Callan, and I am so excited that you are here! I earned my Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in Elementary Education from Texas A&M University. I am certified to teach early childhood through 6th grade in all subject areas. I also have an ESL certification (English as a Second Language) for grades K-6.
I taught 1st grade in the brick & mortar classroom for three years (all subject areas) before taking time off to travel for my husband's job. Being a classroom teacher allowed me to work with many different students with many different learning styles. I have taught students in small and large group settings, and I have learned many different techniques to create a safe, comfortable, and FUN learning environment. Since leaving the brick and mortar classroom, I have been looking for a way to get back to teaching, and I am so glad I came across Outschool! I hope that you will join me for one of my classes to say hello and to learn many fun things! See you there!!!
