This class is designed for young advanced* Spanish-speakers who have learned individual letter sounds, started combining vowels with the consonants M, P, S, and L and are now ready to practice combining the vowels with consonants N, T, D and F to read syllables, words, and sentences. This is the class plan layout by week: Week 1 - Syllables with N (such as na, ne, ni, no, and nu) Week 2 - Syllables with T (such as ta, te, ti, to, and tu) with review from previous weeks Week 3 - Syllables with D (such as da, de, di, do, and du) with review from previous weeks Week 4 - Syllables with F (such as fa, fe, fi, fo, and fu) with review from previous weeks Week 5 - Review Our class time will go something like this, though we may mix up the order and may not do every activity each week: 1. Welcome 2. Practice the consonant of the week with vowels in syllables, words, and phrases. 3. Writing practice including copy work and often a creative element, such as including someone they love in their sentence or drawing a picture to illustrate the sentence. 4. Play a game to reinforce what we are learning or reviewing. 5. Read together a beginning reader written by the instructor designed to practice the sounds we have learned up to that point. *These students may be--for example--heritage speakers, children who have attended an immersion preschool, or "life-time speakers" with a parent or caregiver who has spoken to them in Spanish since infancy. Each week students will be provided with a print-out to bring to class for our writing practice, plus a follow-up material, such as a worksheet or printable version of a book we read in class.

I received a minor in the Spanish language with my bachelor degree (2011). Later, I went on to complete the seven-week, level-five Spanish course at Roca Blanca Spanish School in Catalotepec, Mexico (2018). I have taught group Spanish classes to a variety of ages over a span of five years, four years of which were online. In 2018-2019, I led a preschool co-op in Spanish, primarily to children who were already fluent. Additionally, I have been raising my children primarily in Spanish since 2016. My almost five-year-old has recently started reading in Spanish, and I have provided the instruction and assistance he has needed and continues to need along the way.
