Want to be the leading lady in your own life? In this book club, we will discuss a new book with strong female characters from fairy tale adaptations by Gail Carson Levine every two weeks. Join us in a round-table discussion about the character traits that make the character(s) of the book the leading ladies of their own lives. We will discuss the character traits (grit, bravery, selflessness, integrity, positivity, etc.) of the heroine(s). Then you will connect them to your own lives to help you learn what it takes to be the leading lady of your own life. Students should have basic background knowledge of character traits.

This class will encourage a love of reading while fostering a community of readers. We will practice literacy skills, while at the same time, empowering students to be the heroine of their own lives. This will be a safe place for girls to share their thoughts as everyone will have a chance to participate.

Learners will read sections of the book prior to each meeting. Book Club meetings will typically follow this pattern: Review of main events, favorite quotes, character traits of the main characters, applying traits to our own lives, and a fun discussion. Below is a list of the books we will be discussing.

Week 1: Ella Enchanted - Chapters 1-16
Week 2: Ella Enchanted - Chapters 17-End
 - Chapters 1-16
Week 4: The Two Princesses of Bamarre - Chapters 17-End
Week 5: Fairest - Chapters 1-20
Week 6: Fairest - Chapters 21-End

Discussion questions will be attached to the classroom before our first meeting. Please print or use separate paper to write answers down. We will share our thoughts with the group.

Please preview the books before enrolling your child to make sure they are a good fit. Your child can listen to the book using an audiobook or by having a parent read it to them.
