Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Old Dominion University
I bring a rich background in theater and performance, with both academic training and hands-on experience in the field. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Theater and Dance with a Minor in Film from Old Dominion University, where I studied a wide range of acting techniques, dance styles, and film production processes. My training at ODU provided me with a strong foundation in various acting methods, including classical theater, contemporary works, and improvisation.
A key area of expertise I’ve developed over the years is Shakespearean acting, where I have studied and performed some of the greatest works of William Shakespeare. I have directed several Shakespearean plays, giving me a deep understanding of the complexities of language, character development, and stage direction. This background allows me to teach students how to approach classical texts and bring them to life with authenticity and creativity.
Additionally, I have extensive directing experience in both theater and film. As a director, I’ve had the opportunity to guide actors through rehearsals, helping them explore characters, scenes, and emotions while fostering a collaborative environment. This experience has honed my ability to break down complex material and make it accessible to learners of all levels.
In terms of teaching experience, I have worked with students of all ages, including children and teenagers, in a variety of settings. I have taught acting workshops, led theater camps, and facilitated performance-based classes where I’ve helped young learners develop their acting skills, confidence, and creativity. My work with children has ranged from creating fun, engaging lessons to providing constructive feedback in a positive, encouraging way. I always prioritize creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels comfortable exploring their talents.
In summary, my combination of academic training, directing experience, and passion for working with young learners makes me well-equipped to guide students through their acting journey. Whether introducing them to the fundamentals of acting, helping them develop advanced techniques, or providing personalized coaching, I strive to make every class both educational and enjoyable!
