My teaching style is fun, upbeat and informative. I believe that we all learn best through play, especially our kids. Although we have fun and there is a lot of interaction (games, art, singing or the like), they will also learn priceless life skills that will increase their mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and build character. This is an ongoing series with a different topic covered in each class. You may join in on any class, there is no necessary sequential order and the series will repeat after all classes are done- so you can catch any you may have missed! **Please note the dates and section topic below to make sure you attend the classes you want- there are 8 topics total offered on consecutive Tuesdays, consecutive Wednesdays, or consecutive Thursdays.** Mindfulness and Emotional Intelligence is on of the most important things your children can learn to set them up for a life of success with themselves, other people, careers, and more. Character education involves teaching children about basic human values including honesty, kindness, generosity, courage, freedom, equality and respect. The goal of SEL (social emotional learning) is to raise children to become morally responsible, self-disciplined citizens with the ability to problem solve, have sound decision making, and conflict resolution as important parts of their moral character. Through role playing and discussions, children can see that their decisions affect other people and things. Social Emotional Intelligence is incorporated into some school systems, but it is not taught individually or as a specific class. I developed Laugh and Learn with Lauren to fill this void and help your children gain priceless skills. This is a multi-topic series teaching mindfulness and emotional intelligence/character development. Thursday Sections: Aug 4th Topic: Learn to Listen Aug 11th Topic: Types of Emotions Aug 25th Topic: Being Kind Sept 1st Topic: Making Friends There is no prior skill or knowledge needed in this subject matter.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! I’m Lauren and I am a stay at home mom who loves kids, animals and homeschooling. I have a BSc with Honors in Science, a degree in Art, and obtaining my SECD (social emotional learning and character development) from Rutgers University. I also previously worked as a veterinarian technician and surgical assistant, dog groomer and trainer. I also own my own small business as an artist. I live in the country with my wonderful husband and 2 awesome kids, a bevy of fish, 2 fun dogs and one loud mouthy cat. Our lives are crazy, fun, and full of love. :)
I believe we learn best through fun, positivity, and interaction. I strive to make my classes all of these things so that your kids are engaged, happy and love to learn with me! I am a new teacher to Outschool (July 2022) and do not have all my classes scheduled yet, so make sure to mark me down to check out new classes as I develop them for your kids.
My classes will include:
1. Emotional Intelligence and Social Emotional Learning
2. Character Development
3. Mindfulness
4. Art classes (just art and also art with mindfulness lessons)
5. Animal Science/Care
I love to teach, interact and develop great teacher/parent/child relationships and make this a wonderful venture where I can watch and help your kids grow emotionally and mentally. I hope to see your family in multiple classes and celebrate their achievements with you!
