Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6
Through this one day class we will review how to find places on a map using latitude, longitude and a compass rose. We will begin class with a short discussion about how to use latitude and longitude to locate places on a map. Secondly, students will use a personal world map (which will be uploaded in classroom) and posted in Zoom to complete a scavenger hunt as the teacher gives locations. Then students will create their own map of a town or country, on grid paper. They will be given the grid for their map on the classroom page to print. On their map they will decide where they would hide a "buried treasure". Lastly, they will need to write directions for other students to find the buried treasure. At the end of class students will share their maps and steps to see if someone can find their treasure.

Now offering private tutoring in all subjects through 1 on 1 30 minute ongoing sessions. Also available for one time homework help just send me a message to get it set up. 23 Years! I have been teaching 3-5th grade for 21 years and 8th grade science for the last three years. I am passionate about connecting the real world to what students are learning in the classroom with their interests and hobbies. I teach classes that reinforce skills in math through games and discussions, book clubs for those lovers of books, hands on inquiry lessons in science and real world experiences. Math games focus on fractions, multiplication and division. Book clubs will involve outside reading, in depth discussions during our class time, and hands on projects to make connections. Real world experience classes focusing on creating a budget for a vacation, and creating schedules to allow for time management. I am the teacher that relates your learning to your life. My three top interests outside of school are Disney, long distance running and Harry Potter. I have been long distance running for 15 years and of course bringing my two interests together I run at Disney! I can't wait to get to know your student.
