Class Experience
In our tutoring session I will quickly assess where students are, and with what they are struggling. We can cover vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, Ancient Rome, and Roman Mythology! This can also be utilised as a private Latin instruction class, where I work sequentially through your child’s Latin textbook with them. Latin is anything but dead! As a homeschooler, my parents *forced me* to study Latin - and I thought they were crazy! What I once saw was a drag, has turned into one of the greatest joys of my life! From learning about Roman culture, catching a travel bug, and traveling all over the heart of the Roman Empire: Italy, to knowing the etymology of 60-90% of English language words and being able to easily read and communicate in the Romantic Languages - knowing Latin is a treasured gift! I love giving back to the community, and I am excited to offer these tutoring sessions on Outschool. As we are introduced to vocabulary words, we will seek to link them to words we know in English as well as new words to build our vocabulary such as… Undulate - to move up or down, which comes from the Latin word “Unda”, meaning Wave Defenestrate - to throw someone out the window, which comes from the Latin word “Fenestra”, meaning Window I am able to assist students in prepping for the National Latin Exam to be taken online in March of 2023 Latin is for everyone! - Latin is a wonderful preparation aid for the SAT as well as other high stakes testing - Helpful for students who plan to study medicine or go into a career in the sciences. - Introduces students to the Romantic Languages such as Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French Friend Latin: amicum Spanish: amigo/a Italian: amica/o Portuguese: Amiga/o French: Ami/ie Voice Latin: vox Spanish: voz Italian: voce Portuguese: voz French: Voix Time Latin: tempus Spanish: tiempo Italian: tempo Portuguese: tempo French: temps I have extensive experience with these curricula: Minimus, Minimus Secundus, Cambridge Unit 1-4, Latin A, Henle Latin, Memoria Press, Visual Latin & Wheelock Latin.
