Class Experience

Latin is anything but dead! As a homeschooler, my parents *forced me* to study Latin - and I thought they were crazy!

What I once saw was a drag, has turned into one of the greatest joys of my life! From learning about Roman culture, catching a travel bug, and traveling all over the heart of the Roman Empire: Italy, to knowing the etymology of 60-90% of English language words and being able to easily read and communicate in the Romantic Languages - knowing Latin is a treasured gift!

I love giving back to the community, and I am excited to offer this class on Outschool.

In Unit 2, we are introduced to the Roman Empire, with a focus on Roman Britain, before moving further afield to Egypt.

As we are introduced to vocabulary words, we will seek to link them to words we know in English as well as new words to build our vocabulary such as…

Undulate - to move up or down, which comes from the Latin word “Unda”, meaning Wave
Defenestrate - to throw someone out the window, which comes from the Latin word “Fenestra”, meaning Window

This class will cover stages 17-20 of the Cambridge Latin Course - Unit 2, taking approximately 2 weeks per unit.

Stage 17: Alexandria
Stage 18: Eutychus et Clemens
Stage 19: Isis
Stage 20: medicus
