Beginner Level
In this highly interactive, five-week class that continues from the prerequisite classes Intro to Latin for Kids, Latin Level 1, and Latin Level 2, learners will continue to speak the ancient language of Latin using classical pronunciation. Through lively discussions, vocabulary lists or flashcards (which I will provide), visuals, optional note taking, and imitating my speaking, students will generate and translate increasingly advanced Latin sentences—some of them funny. Also, because about 60% of English has Latin in it, the kids will see how the roots from Latin words in class connect with many English words they already know, plus they will increase their English vocabularies. There will even be the opportunity to invent wacky English words with Latin roots! The material will include nouns, verbs, adjectives, three noun cases, three noun declensions, prepositional phrases, and a few high-frequency words. Each week, the learners will have ongoing opportunities to construct increasingly advanced Latin sentences using what they have learned! Because this class builds onto the prerequisite classes mentioned above, learners are required to complete them prior to starting this five-week class. If your child(ren) has/have previous Latin experience that satisfies the equivalent material in my classes up to this point, I do consider exceptions on an individual basis. Keep in mind that my approach is unique and often is beneficial for students with prior Latin exposure. However, students who have mastered beyond my scope and sequence probably would not be appropriately placed in this class. I will provide each learner printable material consisting of vocabulary and/or flashcards. More specifically by week (depending on overall learner readiness): Class 1: Students will practice and strengthen their use of 2nd conjugation verbs in the present tense by devising fun Latin sentences. They will use prepositional phrases, adjectives, the subject (nominative case), and the direct object (accusative case). Class 2: Students will received a detailed introduction to 3rd conjugation verbs in the present tense and use them in sentences. Week 3: Students will add plural forms of the direct object (accusative case) to the fun sentences they create in speaking and writing. Week 4: Students will receive an introduction to the possessive form of nouns (genitive case) and use it in speaking and writing fun sentences. Week 5: Students will receive a detailed introduction to 4th conjugation verbs in the present tense and use them in sentences. They also will receive an introduction to the imperative form of all four regular verb conjugations and begin using it in useful situations. I look forward to seeing you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Illinois Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
2 Degrees
Master's Degree in Education from National Louis University
Bachelor's Degree from Northwestern University
I taught beginning elementary school Latin as part of my teaching career. I also created and taught a private extracurricular program in Latin and Latin roots for elementary school-ages students. I enjoy instilling self-confidence and motivation in students to learn unfamiliar material in ways that are relevant to their familiar, everyday lives. This involves a combination of discovery, discussion, and practice, with an age-appropriate sense of humor. Establishing a low-risk atmosphere and a comfortable rapport, I enjoy connecting with each individual learner, valuing the unique interests, strengths, and eager curiosity the students bring to class.
