In this highly interactive, five-week class that continues from the five-week class Latin Level 1 for Kids, the students will continue to speak and write the ancient language of Latin. Through lively discussions, vocabulary lists or flashcards (which I will provide), visuals, optional note taking, and imitating my speaking, students will solidify classical Latin pronunciation and generate simple sentences—some of them funny. Because 60% of English has Latin in it, the kids will learn Latin...
I taught beginning elementary school Latin as part of my teaching career. I also created and taught a private extracurricular program in Latin and Latin roots for elementary school-ages students. I enjoy instilling self-confidence and motivation in students to learn unfamiliar material in ways that are relevant to their familiar, everyday lives. This involves a combination of discovery, discussion, and practice, with an age-appropriate sense of humor. Establishing a low-risk atmosphere and a comfortable rapport, I enjoy connecting with each individual learner, valuing the unique interests, strengths, and eager curiosity the students bring to class.
I recommend that each student have a clipboard with a few sheets of paper (blank or lined) and a pencil and eraser. Colored pencils or crayons are optional and may be helpful. Occasionally, I will provide printable materials for use during class and optional use between classes.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
