Latin I introduces students to the Latin language by incorporating Latin into the English grammar curriculum. Latin is a course that will teach students how to pronounce, write, read and understand Latin texts. In addition, students will increase their vocabulary banks, improve their grammar skills and establish a firm understanding of the foundations of the Latin language and also Roman culture. This class will also prepare students for the Latin 2 class. - 40 chapters with grammatical explanations and readings drawn from the works of Rome's major prose and verse writers; - Self-tutorial exercises, each with an answer key, for independent study; - An extensive English-Latin/Latin-English vocabulary section review - A rich selection of original Latin readings - Etymological aids, maps, and dozens of images illustrating aspects of the classical culture and mythology presented in the chapter readings. Latin is anything but dead! As a homeschooler, my parents *forced me* to study Latin - and I thought they were crazy! What I once saw was a drag, has turned into one of the greatest joys of my life! From learning about Roman culture, catching a travel bug, and traveling all over the heart of the Roman Empire: Italy, to knowing the etymology of 60-90% of English language words and being able to easily read and communicate in the Romantic Languages - knowing Latin is a treasured gift! I love giving back to the community, and I am excited to offer this class on Outschool. Latin is for everyone! - Latin is a wonderful preparation aid for the SAT as well as other high stakes testing - Helpful for students who plan to study medicine or go into a career in the sciences. - Introduces students to the Romantic Languages such as Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French
