Learn Latin and Greek root words by utilizing 100 of the most common root words to understand the construction of more complex modern English words. Discover root word meanings and how prefixes and suffixes contribute to word definition.

US Grade 6 - 9
Students will learn the origins of modern English words by studying Latin and Greek root words. This class covers the top 100 most used Greek and Latin root words. (25 each week) Students will be able to add prefixes and suffixes to form various vocabulary words. Such as the root word SCRIPT (to write) add pre- and -ion to form the word preSCRIPTion, or P.S. PostSCRIPT meaning after writing and so forth. Homework will consist of several vocabulary words formed from often used root...
By learning one hundred plus of both Latin and Greek root words, each student has the potential to understand at least five words per root word learned, meaning after this course, each student could possibly increase their vocabulary by five hundred words.

Homework Offered
A homework assignment for each set of 25 root words will be provided.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class

This class utilizes GIMKIT games to enhance understanding. The game gives the teacher a report that shows a percentage of how each student performed at matching the root words with it's meaning. (It's an exam masquerading as a fun game!)Grades Offered

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
