In this one-time introductory class, I'll teach about Latin and Greek roots in Pokémon and how they relate to words in English. What can Pokémon teach us about the words umbrella, arcane, and Ursula? Students will be able to identify Greek and Latin roots in select Pokémon names and recognize those roots in English words.
Pokémon reached the shores of the United States when I was in elementary school and since then, I've pulled apart the connections that the creators had to make to ensure that the trading card game, video games, television show, and movies were a success.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
