In this 5 week course, students will learn a little over 100 root words and affixes potentially turning them into several hundred vocabulary words.

How English evolved into a language and how Greek and Latin Root Words played an important part in forming modern English.

Learn Root Word list 1 and do homework for list 1

Lesson 3
Words from Latin and Greek that mean the same thing but are used differently
Words such as hydro (Greek for water) and Aqua (Latin for water) are both used in the English language but we use them for different meanings of the word. We might use hydro in hydrate but we do not use aqua the same way. We do not aquanate. We go to the aquarium but not the hydrarium. We will look list 2 and do the homework over list 2.

Learn Root Word list 3 and do homework for list 3

We will discuss Root Word List 4. Learn root words in Root Word List 4 and do homework for list 4.

In this lesson we talk about a few important extra root words.

Final thoughts and how to Expand Vocabulary from the 100 Root Words Learned
Putting it all together. Each one of the 100 Root Words learned in this class has the potential to expand into at least 5 more vocabulary words. This lesson will explain how to recognize Root Words while reading and how to expand all the Root Words from the 4 lists into many more vocabulary words.
Students will improve and expand their vocabulary, learn better spelling from learning the root words, learn how to better pronounce words from learning the root words, and they will be able to recognize unfamiliar words from knowing the word's root.

Homework Offered
Each section of 25 words has a worksheet to complete using those same 25 words. Homework can be graded.

The 4 worksheets can be graded. If a student wants to submit the optional homework of looking up additional vocabulary words from the roots wrods learned, they can be graded too.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
