What's included
1 live meeting
1 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. I will attach a handout with the vocabulary and conjugation charts. This should be used after the class to practice. Writing them will help solidify them in their minds. This work is not to be turned in, but it is a tool to help them master Latin.Assessment
I will write an informal assessment to the parent after the class has completed.Class Experience
In this class, we will start with the pronunciation of the Latin letters and how they should be inflected. We will talk about the difference between them and what we would normally say in our own language. I will have them practice and learn to greet me and others in Latin. We will start with first and second verbal conjugations. Translating Latin is like a puzzle and can be really satisfying when you start to understand what you are looking at. The students will learn a few vocabulary words and then begin translating simple sentences. At the end of class, they will be able to say one or two phrases in Latin! I teach in a lecture style, with slides, and I encourage students to ask questions and interact with me and other students. I believe education is a conversation, and it helps learners retain the information, rather than memorize and forget it. No previous experience is required since this is Beginner Level Latin, however, it would be very advantageous if the students are well-versed in English grammar beforehand. If they are not, I do have a Pre-Latin class that addresses this. I am only using slides (my own creation) and Youtube (if time allows) and pictures (that I took myself) as a screenshare.
Learning Goals
Students will learn classical Latin pronunciations, 1st and 2nd conjugation verbs, and some vocabulary. They will be able to translate some very basic sentences by the end of class.
