Class Experience

In this class, students will continue to develop their sight-reading skills, learn how to play more expressively, read and play in different time signatures and continue to develop dynamic control and phrasing.

Week Two: Review pieces from week one. Practice playing a piece using staccato in the left hand while sustaining notes in the right hand. Learn various cross hand arpeggio patterns.

Week Three: Review pieces from week two. Learn Spanish Caballero. Add pedal and focus on creating legato cross-hand arpeggios. Discuss intervals of 6ths.

Week Four: Review exercises and pieces from previous weeks. Continue discussion of 6th intervals. Learn Boxcar Rumble and The Great Clock with mini improvisation.

Week Five: Review pieces from week four. Learn a new piece using 1st and 2nd endings. Continue practicing intervals of 6th in music. Learn to play C Major scale (one octave). Begin a piece using ascending and descending C Major scales.

I have been teaching piano for over 13 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's Degree of Art in Music. I am a touring musician and am currently recording my second solo album.
Please note: Students will need to practice a minimum of 1 hour every week to stay on top of class material. Sight-reading fluency is essential to learning class pieces.
Please note: The required class book will be Piano Adventures Lesson Book Level 2B (orange cover). For advanced students, I also recommend getting Piano Adventures Performance Book Level 2B. I may assign additional pieces for advanced students from the performance book or if he/she is ahead in class work. The links for both books are below.

I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
