Description

Class Experience

Please note: This class picks up where Beginning Piano Level F leaves off. Prospective students should be able to read standard notation in C position and G position, be able to identify 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th intervals, transpose pieces to G position, understand sharps and flats, understand how to use dynamic contrast (crescendo, diminuendo etc), and have an understanding of articulation markings. Sight reading music is essential to this class so prospective students should be comfortable with reading music in Level 2A Piano Adventures series (previous book). In this class, students will continue to develop their sight-reading skills, learn how to play more expressively, read and play in different time signatures and continue to develop dynamic control and phrasing.
I have been teaching piano for over 13 years. I have a Master's Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's Degree of Art in Music. I am a touring musician and am currently recording my second solo album.
Please note: Students will need to practice a minimum of 1 hour every week to stay on top of class material. Sight-reading fluency is essential to learning class pieces.
Please note: The required class book will be Piano Adventures Lesson Book Level 2B (orange cover). For advanced students, I also recommend getting Piano Adventures Performance Book Level 2B. I may assign additional pieces for advanced students from the performance book or if he/she is ahead in class work. The links for both books are below. Lesson Book 2B: https://pianoadventures.com/publications/piano-adventures-level-2b-lesson-book-2nd-edition/ ($7.99) Performance Book 2B: https://pianoadventures.com/publications/piano-adventures-level-2b-performance-book-2nd-edition/ ($6.99) Sight-reading app for extra practice. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/notes-sight-reading-trainer/id874386416
I will offer feedback after students perform an exercise and, if needed, provide suggestions to help the student master the concept. Mistakes are a part of learning a musical instrument! So students should not worry if they play the exercise or a piece correct on the first try. Together we will learn how to progress through new music and learn new musical concepts.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
