Laser Lines - Discover the Story Behind in the Math (Summer Camp)
What's included
4 live meetings
3 hrs 20 mins in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Homework is provided every week and is intended to review the exercises we do in class and some additional and exciting math challenges. Although homework is optional for this Summer Camp, it is highly recommended for students to spend at least one hour every week and to experience the joy of problem-solving. The difficulty level is progressive.Class Experience

Laser Lines is a 3-week Summer Camp designed to cover major cornerstones of linear equations, their geometry, their Physical interpretation and how they can be applied to answer a variety of questions. The course is designed by a weekly theme as follows: Week 1 - Visualize and feel This week is all about Geometry; we will understand the geometric and physical meaning of slope and apply it to different scenarios. We also delve into the difference between linear variation in general and proportional variation in particular. Week 2 - The algebra and the writing Once we have a geometric-visual foundation for lines, we delve into linear equations, and we understand how to construct them by taking two data points in the form of slope-point, point-intercept, or point-point equations. At this "point," we can delve into solving some iconic equations with different configurations! Week 3 - Iconic Story problems Mathematical modelling is the ultimate task for mathematics. This week is about tackling famous story problems related to lines and linear equations; we finish off the course with one of the most intriguing setups in linear equations that combine all our different abilities to perform one task! My classes are interactive; every student can participate several times during class, and I dedicate time to have a group dynamic where we all learn from each other. My students can use the screenshots from the sessions as helpful notes for them to review all the central ideas that we cover.
Learning Goals
After this course students will have a panoramic view of linear equations and how they are constructed, visualized, and used to create models and answer questions.
They will have hands-on experience working with these equations and solving different configurations.
They will gain experience in understanding the major setups in which linear equations are created from word-problems.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I'm a mathematician and a classical and jazz pianist. I'm a bilingual math and music teacher; I've been teaching K-12 Math, teaching piano lessons and performing for more than ten years in the US, Canada, and México.
I'm a Fulbright scholar with a master's in jazz and a double major in mathematics and classical piano. I also love Computer Science and have been working for a Data Science company for two years now.
Everything is easy, and everyone can learn any ability or topic; it's a combination of practice, a clever approach, and some guidance along the way; that's what makes the learning equation magical!
It is also essential to understand every student's strengths and adapt, as a teacher and guide, to their needs and their way of understanding the world.
Perhaps one of the most important tools I use when solving a problem is to construct a simpler scenario and use that to understand the original problem; this way, everything seems a little bit easier to understand. Our ability to imagine a more straightforward scenario is one of the fundamental tools we can use in math and any other human activity - less is MORE!
The greatest advantage of having a tutor is that you'll have a guide along the way that has travelled through many of the places you are now travelling and can lead you along the way. The idea is to walk together, have fun and improve our math skills!
I've always taken this approach with my students, and it all works out better than we expect in the end!
