Teacher expertise and credentials
My classes focus on Elementary/Middle School Education classes (math, reading, language), English as a Second Language for all ages and College Readiness classes for High School students.
I have a degree in Education K-8 from the Ohio State University, a M.Ed. in Specialized Education K-12 from the University of South Carolina and I am currently pursing my doctorate in Education thorough the North Carolina State University. I am also certified to teach English as a Second language. I have been fortunate enough to teach in the Elementary, Middle, High School and College levels. I have worked with over 500 ESL students and I taught at a local university as an adjunct instructor on an as need basis for 17 years. I taught education classes to future teachers. The biggest question I get asked is what age do I like the most and I honestly have to say, I like the age that I am teaching at the moment.
My philosophy of teaching involves thinking of learning as building blocks. You can see the whole picture of where you want to go but you need to build the skills up one by one to achieve your goal. I also believe in teaching to mastery. A skill should be solidified before moving on to the next concept.
My passions are many but a few are animals, music, books and nature. I have rescued many animals and I am the proud owner of 13 pets. Music is always playing at my house and we love to dance. If the sun is out, we are out and if clouds are out, I have my nose in a book.
