US Grade 9 - 12
In this class, students will receive an introduction of 13 different topics linguists study when they look at language, language use, and the formation of words and sounds. Students will receive a notes page for each class prior to the class meet. The teacher will give students a short review activity to complete in between class meets. The class will review answers the next class. Students will even do field work of their own and present their findings to the class! Linguistics is an interesting topic and this class will give students new ways to think about language. I look forward to working with your future linguistics! The following topics will be covered each class: Week 1: The history of linguistics. What is a linguist? Week 2: Phonetics Week 3: Phonology Week 4: Morphology Week 5: Semantics Week 6: Syntax Week 7: Pragmatics Week 8: Historical Linguistics Week 9: Applied Linguistics Week 10: Forensic Linguistics Week 11: World Languages Week 12: Language Acquisition Week 13: Student Field Work Presentations
Learning Goals
Students will study the history of linguistics.
