Class Experience
Welcome to second grade English Language Arts! This series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring) can be used as your student's sole ELA course for their year or as a supplement to another ELA class or curriculum. Students should have successfully completed a first grade Language Arts curriculum. In this class, we will work through the first quarter of the 2nd grade Common Core English language arts standards. Most weeks will have a lesson in phonics, handwriting, spelling, and...
Students will improve their phonemic awareness. Students will practice decoding words. Students will be practicing comprehension skills such as reread, retell, look at titles, following written directions. Students will improve their verbal and written communication skills. Students will be able to collaborate with partners to accomplish a task. Students will gain personal responsibility by coming to class on time and prepared.
Moxie learning is comprised of four teachers who have immense experience in both traditional classroom settings as well as virtual learning settings working with homeschool families. The instructor of this specific class also has experience in as a kindergarten teacher in a public school setting and can't wait to make the move to first grade with your kiddos!
No Homework! Students will be encouraged to read a book of their choosing for 15-20 minutes each day.
All supplies for this class are included in the price of the course and will be shipped to you upon enrollment.
Students will be assessed both formally and informally throughout the class. A letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the quarter.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will be utilizing Logic of English Foundations C materials.
