Welcome to fourth grade English Language Arts! This series of 4 classes (Fall, Winter I, Winter II, & Spring) can be used as your student's sole ELA course for their year or as a supplement to another ELA class or curriculum. Students will improve their ability to ask and answer questions to improve reading comprehension. Students will be able to recount a story after reading. Students will be able to identify the main idea and details of a text. Students will be able to identify spelling patterns and apply them to new words. Students will improve their command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. Students will write opinion pieces on topics or texts and support their point of view. Students will be able to produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate. With guidance and support from peers and adults, develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, and editing.
Students will need to complete unfinished work from classes prior to the next class. I will not assign busy work and most nights students will have no formal assignments. Additionally, students are encouraged to read independently a book of their choice for 20 minutes each day.
Student workbooks and reading books will be included in the price of the class!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed both formally and informally throughout the class. A letter grade can be provided upon request at the beginning of the quarter.
3 hours 20 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
We will utilize Logic of English workbooks.
