Class Experience
6 Week Intensive Korean Class Syllabus: I will provide all lesson materials and homework. Week 1 - Learn to Read and Write Korean + Basic Present Tense: We learn the Korean writing system (called Hangul) and I show students how to read, write, and pronounce Korean characters. We practice using names of famous Kpop Idols and Kpop songs which the students are interested in. And we also are introduced to common verbs in Kpop and how they are conjugated. Even if you already know how to read and...
1. Independently learn Kpop songs: being able to understand all of the lyrics and be able to sing the song from start to finish. 2. Be able to have Korean conversations that go beyond a simple self introduction. 3. Apply Korean skills to other areas of Korean such as TV and other forms of entertainment.
I graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a degree in Statistics and I've taken two years of Korean class as well as a Winter Semester Abroad in Yonsei University. For the past 4 years I've been living in Korea with my Korean speaking girlfriend. We have started a popular Korean social media channel where we upload Korean vlogs of our daily life. I'm fluent in Korean and have been teaching Korean since 2019. I am very knowledgeable of the language and the culture. I'm also a data scientist. I've also used my technical skills in natural language processing to find the most common words, grammar and phrases in Kpop so that I can teach students the Korean that they will encounter most often. I also have research published in the International Educational Data Mining Society regarding learning new vocabulary words and their surrounding contexts.
1. Homework assignments after every lesson involve a few questions and translations. 2. Word banks to memorize and practice. 3. Homework where students apply what they've learned to a Kpop songs.
