Class Experience

How do you say "I love you" in Korean? Korean people celebrate Valentine's Day, but there is a unique twist compared to other countries. Let's learn about the traditions and Korea phrases related to this holiday and love. What are White Day and Black Day? Related to Valentine's Day and celebrated on the 14th of March and April respectively, let's talk about how these days are related.

In class we will discuss the cultural differences when celebrating Valentine's Day and the related following holidays as well we ways to use the verb "to love": 사랑하다. We will also talk about other related phrases and words related to love and holiday. After class I will send a handout you can keep so that you can practice new words and phrases and get a summary of how Korean people celebrate Valentine's Day, White Day, and Black Day.

Students do not need any Korean language knowledge or background to participate in class, but reading Hangul is helpful. Students who do know some Korean will also enjoy this class because we will touch on different verb endings with "to love" to change the meaning.

We will include short clips from dramas to show words and phrases in use. Some clips are included from: It's Okay to Not Be Okay and Itaewon Class.
