Description
Class Experience
Students will learn how to tie 6 different knots that are essential to many activities, including the figure 8, figure 8 follow loop, bowline, double overhand stop, sheet bend, and the alpine butterfly loop.
I have over 4 years of professional maritime search and rescue experience working directly with the United States Coast Guard providing life saving services to the boater and swimmers of Florida. I have significant experience tying knots and teaching others search and rescue skills and techniques, including knot, bend and hitch tying. I look forward to teaching this necessary skill to your student!
There is no assigned homework for this class, but students are welcome and encouraged to continue practicing tying the knots they learned in class! If a student had an issue with a particular knot during class, watching the class recording video can often help.
This is a very hands on class, and each student will need their own piece of line/rope. It should measure at least 36 inches long and be between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch thick in diameter. Please make sure to have the correct diameter line, as too thick or too thin can make learning these knots very difficult. This can be easily found at boating and outdoor stores, as well as in the sporting/boating section of certain box stores, such as Walmart.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
