Knitting Class: Private Lessons to Learn How to Knit, Purl, and More

Lori Ferguson-Borton
Average rating:5.0Number of reviews:(63)
In this six week one-one-one course, students will learn all the basics of knitting.

Class experience

Students will improve their dexterity and learn a life-long skill by learning to knit.
Mrs. Borton has been crafting since she was a child. She is an enthusiastic knitter and has lost count of the hats, scarves, sweaters, and socks she has made. Mrs. Borton has taught hundreds of young people how to knit in a weekly knitting club and has taught knitting at a local craft store.
Homework Offered
Students will want to practice their knitting outside of class. How much they practice is up to them, but I recommend practicing a little bit each day, for around 10-15 minutes.
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
1. One skein of yarn in a size 4. This can be of any fiber content, but acrylic, acrylic-wool blend, or wool will be the easiest to use. The yarn should be a smooth yarn, and not one that has a lot of bumps or loops.
2. 10" straight knitting needles in size 7 or 8. Bamboo needles are easy for beginners to use but you may use whatever needles you have or want!
3. small pair of blunt scissors
4. Students may also choose a larger yarn (size 5) and corresponding needles (10 or 11).
Students will be using knitting needles and scissors. Younger students will need supervision, because theses items can be sharp.

Students should not need constant supervision during the class and Outschool does ask that parents do their best to stay off-screen during class time and wait until after class to ask questions to the teachers.
